BENGALURU:

The BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Gasti succumbed to Covid-19 on Thursday at around 10.30 pm in Manipal Hospital. He had been admitted to the private hospital 15 days ago.

55-year-old Ashok Gasti was elected to the Rajya Sabha member just four months ago.

BJP Rajya sabha member Ashok Gasti succumbed to COVID. He was admitted at Manipal hospital for the treatment 15 days back.

Gasti, originally from Raichur district’s Lingasur, belonged to the Savita community. He was an RSS and BJP stalwart.

BJP general secretary Ashok Gasti and Erana Baradi were fielded in the June assembly elections for the Rajya Sabha. Both were unanimously elected.

In a press note, Manipal Hospital Director Dr Manish Rai, said Ashok Gasti, who was admitted on September 2 with severe Covid-19 pneumonia, passed away at 10.31pm.
“He was critically ill with multi-organ failure, on life support system in the Intensive Care Unit under constant observation by our expert panel of doctors,” the press note said.

An earlier press note by Dr Rai at 5 pm had also referred to the MP being “critically ill with multi-organ failure, on life support system in the Intensive care Unit.”
