BJP Launches 10-Day Padayatra From Lingasugur Against Congress Government; BY Vijayendra Says Protest Will Continue
Lingasugur (Raichur)/Bengaluru: Karnataka BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra said the party has begun its agitation against the Congress government and that while its 10-day padayatra may conclude on September 10, the BJP’s campaign against the government will continue.
Speaking to the media after offering prayers at Sri Amareshwara Temple in Gurugunta, Vijayendra accused the Congress government of being corrupt, anti-people, anti-Dalit and anti-development. He said the BJP would spend the next one-and-a-half to two years exposing what he described as the government’s failures and corruption.
Vijayendra said the party’s agitation would continue until the Congress government was removed from power and expressed confidence that a BJP-led NDA government would come to power subsequently.
Describing the march as a 10-day padayatra, he said leaders from across the BJP would participate, with particularly strong participation from leaders in North Karnataka. Party workers were enthusiastic about the programme, he said, describing it as a historic padayatra.
Vijayendra said former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa would launch the padayatra. Former chief ministers and MPs Basavaraj Bommai and Jagadish Shettar, Leaders of the Opposition R. Ashoka and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, former ministers B. Sriramulu and Shivanagouda Nayak, local MLA Manappa Vajjal and party leader Bangaru Hanumanthu were among the leaders expected to participate, he said.
He said legislators, party leaders and workers from the region had made extensive preparations to ensure the success of the padayatra.
Vijayendra said the number of participants was less important than the continuation and intensity of the party’s agitation. He claimed that the government had already been forced to act after the padayatra was announced and alleged that fear of the BJP’s agitation had resulted in the resignation of a minister whom he described as corrupt.
He said the government had been placed in a situation where it had no alternative but to obtain the minister’s resignation. Vijayendra described the launch of the padayatra as the beginning of a new era for the BJP and reiterated that the party’s political campaign against the Congress government would continue beyond the 10-day march.
