BJP-JD(S) Protest in Karnataka Legislature Seeking Minister B Nagendra's Resignation; Assembly Adjourned to Monday
Bengaluru: BJP and JD(S) legislators intensified their protest demanding Minister B Nagendra’s resignation, marching from the Legislators’ Home to Vidhana Soudha in black attire before raising slogans inside the Karnataka legislature.
The Opposition legislators wore black clothes carrying messages against Nagendra during the march. Marshals stopped the legislators near the Assembly entrance over the attire, leading to an argument. BJP MLA Prabhu Chavan objected to the marshals’ action. The BJP and JD(S) legislators later entered the House wearing the T-shirts.
As Assembly proceedings began, BJP and JD(S) members continued to demand Nagendra’s resignation. During consideration of the 2026 apartment Bill, BJP members raised slogans seeking his removal from the Cabinet.
Amid the continued uproar by Opposition members, Speaker G S Patil adjourned the Assembly proceedings until Monday.
The protest also continued in the Legislative Council, where Opposition members demanded Nagendra’s removal from the Cabinet. The Chairman appealed to members to allow the House to function.
Opposition leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy said Nagendra’s name had been mentioned in a charge sheet and demanded his immediate resignation. During the exchanges, the government questioned the Opposition’s approach, while Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said the Opposition was free to demand a resignation but should hold a debate on the issue in the House.
Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka accused the Congress of allowing the functioning of the entire House to be affected over one minister. He demanded Nagendra’s removal and said another legislator could be given the ministerial position.
According to the information provided, the CBI has written to Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot seeking sanction to prosecute Nagendra in connection with the Valmiki Corporation case. The communication was reportedly sent about a week ago.
The Governor is seeking legal advice on the CBI’s request, and the matter remains under active consideration at Raj Bhavan, according to information attributed to the Governor’s office.
