Best Karnataka civic cleaner can win Rs 1 lakh award

Named after late IPD Salappa, who espoused the cause of civic cleaners, award will be administered by BBMP 

BENGALURU: 

A state-level award has been instituted in honour of the late IPD Salappa, who is widely revered as the ‘Pitamaha’ of poura karmikas (civic sweepers) for his yeoman’s service for the welfare of safai karmacharis and poura karmikas.

As per a government order, it has been decided that, on behalf of BBMP, a state-level award will be presented to one person in the name of the late IPD Salappa.

To be eligible for the award for the current year, safai karmacharis and poura karmikas may submit a detailed application to the selection committee of the administrative branch of the Chief Commissioner, BBMP head office, Narasimharaja Chowk, Bengaluru-560002, within 15 days.

Guidelines for applicants:

• The age limit to apply is 60 years.

• Applicants should not have a criminal background and should not be ineligible as per government rules.

• Applicants should be achievers in their respective field.  

• It is not a posthumous award.

• Applicants should have rendered service for at least 20 years.

• The award will include a sum of Rs 1 lakh.
