Minimum documentation will be required for various services, says Bescom MD Rajendra Chollan
BENGALURU:
In some welcome news for Bengalureans who have all these years been sent on a wild goose chase when applying for various services, Bescom, whose brief is to supply uninterrupted power to Bengaluru and neighbouring districts in its jurisdiction, has decided to launch a ‘Jana Snehi’ initiative which should help citizens avail of services without the ‘services’ of brokers.
As part of this initiative, anyone can apply online or walk into a Bescom sub-division office to get names changed in power bills or change in tariffs, etc., within 24 hours of applying for such services.
Speaking to TheBengaluruLive, Bescom MD Rajendra Chollan (the Jana Snehi project is his brainchild) said: “The objective of the Jana Snehi Vidhyut services is to simplify the procedure of availing power supply and to make it consumer-friendly. Jana Snehi Vidhyut services are intended to provide the following services within 24 hours – arrange power supply to domestic and commercial consumers (single or multiple connections) for loads up to 18 KW, wherever additional infrastructure and line extension is not required, name change, tariff change, addition/reduction, etc.”
SMS/e-mail alerts
Citizens can apply online or offline (at the sub-division office) for availing the services. Quick and transparent services are ensured, and the registration process needs minimum documentation like proof of identity, proof of address and completion certificate.
Applicants will be informed of the payment and application status progress through SMS/e-mail alerts, and can track the status of their applications.
Dedicated helpdesks have been set up in all Bescom sub-divisions. The new services will reportedly benefit around 10 lakh applicants.
