BESCOM Assistant Executive Engineer Caught Accepting ₹15 Lakh Bribe in Bengaluru
Bengaluru, May 29: A BESCOM Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) was caught red-handed by Lokayukta officials while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹15 lakh in Bengaluru’s Basaveshwaranagar area.
The accused officer has been identified as Basavaraj, an Assistant Executive Engineer with BESCOM’s Vigilance Wing. According to preliminary information, the officer had allegedly demanded a total bribe of ₹65 lakh in connection with matters relating to the electricity billing of an apartment complex.
Following a complaint, Lokayukta officials laid a trap and apprehended the officer while he was allegedly receiving ₹15 lakh as part of the demanded bribe amount.
The operation was carried out by Lokayukta police, who took the accused into custody immediately after the transaction. Officials subsequently conducted preliminary questioning and initiated further investigation into the case.
Sources said the bribe was allegedly sought to resolve issues related to an apartment’s electricity bill. Investigators are now examining the circumstances surrounding the demand and whether other individuals were involved.
Lokayukta officials have registered a case and are continuing their probe. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
