Bengaluru, May 30: The parade grounds of the Madras Engineering Group and Centre (MEG & Centre) in Bengaluru witnessed a grand display of military precision, discipline and pride as 2,181 Agniveers successfully completed their training and participated in the Passing Out Parade (POP) held on Friday.

The ceremony marked a major milestone in the lives of the young Agniveers who, after months of rigorous military training, physical endurance and professional development, are now ready to join the ranks of the Indian Army and serve the nation with dedication and honour.

Held at the iconic Govindaswamy Drill Square, the parade showcased the transformation of civilian youth into disciplined soldiers. The Agniveers marched in flawless synchronisation to the stirring tunes of the military band, demonstrating exceptional standards of turnout, confidence and drill.

The impressive performance reflected the high-quality training imparted by the Madras Engineering Group and Centre, one of the Indian Army’s premier training establishments, and highlighted the proud legacy of the Madras Sappers.

The Passing Out Parade was reviewed by Brigadier Ajay Singh Thakur, Commandant of the Madras Engineering Group and Centre. Addressing the newly inducted soldiers, Brigadier Thakur congratulated the Agniveers on successfully completing their training and praised their determination, professionalism and commitment throughout the course.

He emphasised the importance of discipline, integrity, courage, selfless service and dedication in military life. He urged the young soldiers to uphold the highest traditions and values of the Indian Army in every assignment they undertake during their service.

A key highlight of the ceremony was the emotional recognition of the families who supported the Agniveers throughout their journey. As part of the event, the prestigious “Gaurav Padak” was presented to the proud parents of the passing-out Agniveers in acknowledgement of their contribution and sacrifice.

In one of the most touching moments of the ceremony, parents were invited to participate in the investiture process by adorning their sons with the rank insignia of “Thambi Sapper”, formally marking their transition from trainees to soldiers of the Indian Army. The proud smiles and emotional exchanges between parents and their sons added a deeply personal dimension to the military ceremony.

The Centre also made extensive arrangements for visiting family members, including reception facilities, transportation and logistical support. Officers, instructors and staff interacted with the families, sharing in their pride and celebrating the achievement of the newly trained soldiers.

Senior Army officers, military personnel, veterans and family members attended the ceremony, which concluded with the traditional military honours and celebrations.

The Passing Out Parade represented not just the completion of training, but the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of 2,181 young soldiers. The event reaffirmed the Indian Army’s commitment to developing disciplined, capable and mission-ready personnel under the Agnipath scheme, prepared to safeguard the nation with courage, professionalism and unwavering commitment.

With the successful completion of their training at the Madras Engineering Group and Centre, the newly inducted Agniveers will now move on to operational units across the country, carrying forward the proud legacy of the Indian Army and the Madras Sappers.
