29 active containment zones in city, mostly in Yelahanka and Dasarahalli

BENGALURU:

With Bengaluru reporting 2,004 Covid-19 positive cases on Sunday, the highest daily figure in the last four months, it is claimed that the tech city’s positivity rate has gone up to 1.94%.

Since December 2020, Bengaluru has seen a huge surge in positive cases. In December, Bengaluru had 18,551 positive cases, which is now 22,326 positive cases as on March 28 evening, BBMP’s Bulletin-370 said.

Though the fatality rate is still under 0.50%, the city has already reported 98 deaths as against 88 deaths (an increase of 1.28% month-on-month) reported in February 2021 and 66 deaths (0.64%) in January 2021.

The worry for the Health Department is that new cases are increasing among younger people in the age group of 20-50 years

As per BBMP’s data, around 1,171 cases are in the age group of 20-50 years, of which 453 are females. More deaths are being reported in the age group of 60 years and above.

29 active containment zones

Most of the new containment zones are in Yelahanka and Dasarahalli but there are also a few containment zones in East and West Bengaluru. In the current second wave, South Bengaluru has only one active containment zone — RV Girls Nursing Hostel — which will be active till April 9.
