Bengaluru: Railway penalties in Bengaluru Division are moving towards card and UPI payments after the Railway Protection Force recorded 6,671 cases of littering, trespassing and no-parking violations and collected ₹33,49,700 since June 2026.
The RPF of South Western Railway’s Bengaluru Division and State Bank of India signed a memorandum of understanding on October 1 to facilitate digital penalty collection through point-of-sale terminals. The agreement takes effect from the same date, according to the division.
Debit cards, credit cards and UPI
The facility will allow people penalised for violations covered by the Jan Vishwas Act within railway premises to pay using debit cards, credit cards and UPI. The railway said the arrangement would offer a secure and convenient alternative to cash payments while improving transparency and accountability.
The agreement covers digital collection of Jan Vishwas Act and littering penalties. The division said reducing reliance on cash would support more efficient enforcement and public service delivery.
Trespassing accounts for the largest collection
Since June, RPF Bengaluru Division has registered 3,825 trespassing cases and collected ₹19,16,000 in penalties. Another 2,619 no-parking cases brought in ₹13,09,500, while 227 littering cases resulted in ₹1,24,200 in penalties.
Together, the three categories account for 6,671 cases and ₹33,49,700, or about ₹33.50 lakh, in collections. The railway listed the enforcement figures under the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026, and its anti-littering drive.
Railway–bank partnership
The MoU was signed in the presence of Bengaluru Divisional Railway Manager Ashutosh Kumar Singh, SBI General Manager Sanjay Kumar Jha and Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, RPF Bengaluru, Shreyans Chinchawade, along with senior railway and bank officials.
Singh stressed the role of institutional collaboration and digital technology in improving operational efficiency, transparency and ease of payment. Jha also emphasised the use of digital solutions available through the banking sector.
The division said the partnership combines Indian Railways’ extensive public interface with SBI’s digital payment and banking infrastructure to improve passenger convenience and accountability.
