Bengaluru Public Prosecutor Caught Accepting ₹5,000 Bribe in Lokayukta Trap
Bengaluru, June 1: The Karnataka Lokayukta Police successfully trapped and arrested a Public Prosecutor attached to the City Civil and Sessions Court in Bengaluru while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹5,000 from a complainant.
The trap operation was conducted under the supervision of Shiva Prakash Devraju, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Karnataka Lokayukta, Bengaluru City-1 Unit.
According to Lokayukta officials, the accused has been identified as Savitha Naveen Patil, aged 55, serving as Public Prosecutor at the City Civil and Sessions Court (CCH-54), Bengaluru.
The complainant, Manjunath, son of Krishnappa, aged 40 and a resident of Banashankari, Bengaluru, approached the Lokayukta alleging that the Public Prosecutor had demanded a bribe to submit objections in Crime No. 80/2026 registered at Chennammanakere Achukattu Police Station.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Crime No. 20/2026 under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018.
Lokayukta officials said the accused had allegedly demanded ₹5,000 from the complainant for processing the official work. Following verification of the complaint, a trap was organised by the anti-corruption agency.
During the operation, the accused was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of ₹5,000 from the complainant.
Following the trap, the accused was secured by Lokayukta officials and further investigation is underway to ascertain all circumstances connected with the case.
The operation was led by Trap Laying Officer (TLO) Srikanth S., Police Inspector-01, along with Police Inspector Bhaskar C.R. (PI-20) and other members of the Lokayukta team.
The trap proceedings were supervised by Brijesh Mathew, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP-14), Karnataka Lokayukta, Bengaluru City-1.
Lokayukta officials stated that the investigation is continuing and further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
