Bengaluru: Bengaluru North City Corporation Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar has directed officials to remove the obstacles holding up development works in the Dasarahalli Assembly constituency and start the works sanctioned under the POW scheme within one week.
He gave the instruction at a review meeting on Thursday, November 5, held in the presence of Dasarahalli MLA S Muniraju, according to a press release from the corporation. The meeting reviewed roads, footpaths, stormwater drains, parks, streetlights, Khata services and sanitation.
The release said the tendering for the POW works has been completed and the works, initially planned for after Deepavali, must now begin within a week. Officials were also told to develop the remaining roads in Babanna Layout and begin the pending works there by next week.
Under the 2025-26 POW scheme, 28 works have been identified, of which 19 are in progress. Under the 2026-27 allocation, 34 works have been identified, of which three are in progress and 10 have not yet begun. The Commissioner told officials to prioritise the ongoing works and start the pending ones at the earliest, and to keep footpath, pothole and road works to the prescribed quality standards.
Contractors who fail to maintain roads properly, even during the Defect Liability Period, are to face action, and further bills payable to them are to be withheld where necessary, he said. Officials were also asked to prepare a calendar of events for the works so that progress can be monitored regularly.
On stormwater drains, officials were told to desilt them properly, maintain quality in drain works and issue work orders for drain repairs without delay, after water stagnation and poor flow of rainwater were raised at the meeting.
The Commissioner asked officials to listen to citizens facing difficulties with Khata services, including Khata transfers, keep applicants informed and resolve their issues on priority. He also said departments that do not cooperate with the Ward One campaign should be reported to him so that action can be taken against the officials concerned.
In Shettihalli ward, where the Ward One campaign is under way, all six parks must be cleaned and kept in good condition, with park toilets and other amenities maintained and working, the release said.
Concerns raised by the MLA included the functioning of the Forest Department, with officials told to take action, including replacing personnel who are negligent. Streetlights remaining on until 8 am in some places were also flagged, and officials were told to fix streetlight problems in parks on priority and strengthen the electrical wing with the required engineers.
On footpaths, officials were told to monitor chicken shop trays placed on footpaths and the odour from some commercial establishments. With garbage complaints rising in the constituency, they were asked to review the sanitation contract system and engage new contractors where needed. The issue of some Single House Scheme beneficiaries not receiving Direct Benefit Transfer assistance was also taken up, and officials were told to resolve it at the earliest.
Additional Commissioner (Development) Mona Roat, Additional Commissioner (Revenue In-charge) and Joint Commissioner Pallavi K R, Deputy Commissioner Mangalagowri, Chief Engineer Yamuna, Superintending Engineer Krishna Kumar, executive engineers and heads of departments attended the meeting.
