Bengaluru: A live-in couple staying in Rajagopalnagar’s Indira Priyadarshini Layout were found dead in what police say is a case of murder followed by suicide, triggered by suspicion and a late-night quarrel.

The deceased have been identified as Lalitha (49), a native of Telangana, and Lakshminarayana, hailing from Tumakuru.

Relationship Turned Turbulent

Lalitha had reportedly lost her husband several years ago and had since drifted away from her children, eventually settling alone in Bengaluru. She later met Lakshminarayana, and the friendship evolved into a live-in relationship. The two had been staying together for nearly five to six years.

Police said the couple moved into their current rented house about six months ago.

The Night of the Crime

According to investigators, a heated argument broke out between the couple late last night. Lakshminarayana allegedly suspected Lalitha of being involved with another man — a recurring point of conflict.

During the altercation, police say Lakshminarayana strangled Lalitha to death. Overcome by panic, guilt, or fear of arrest, he is believed to have hanged himself soon after.

Police Statement

Rajagopalnagar police launched an investigation after neighbours noticed something unusual in the morning and alerted authorities.

DCP (North-West) Nagesh, speaking to reporters, said:

“The two had been living together for several years. Last night, a quarrel broke out for some reason. Lakshminarayana strangulated Lalitha, and later he too died by suicide by hanging. The case came to light when neighbours checked on them this morning.”

Relatives Respond

Lalitha’s relatives, who reached the spot after receiving information from neighbours, revealed that the family had distanced themselves from her after her husband’s death.

One family member said:

“We had kept her away from the house for nearly 10 years after our brother passed away. We don’t know what happened between them here. We got a call in the morning and rushed.”

Police Probe Underway

Rajagopalnagar Police have registered a case of murder and unnatural death. Forensic teams inspected the spot, and further investigation is in progress.

What began as a companionship between two individuals seeking emotional support has ended in a tragic murder–suicide, driven by suspicion and recurring conflict.
