The much awaited 12th edition of the Bengaluru International Film Festival kick started from Wednesday. As many as 220 films will be screened till March 4.
The festival began with 30 minute Medley of Kannada Film Songs on Rain and Farmers by Karnataka Television Artistes Association.
An hour-long Dance Performances by 200 artistes of Samanvaya Dance Company on Hindi and other Southern languages caught the attention of the audience. This included Bharata Natyam, Kuchipudi, Odissi and many facets of Karnataka folklore.
Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, Actress Jaya Pradha, Noted Producer Boney Kapoor, Rocking Star Yash, Chairman of the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy Sunil Puranik, Secretary to Government in the Department of Information and Public Relations Captain P Manivannan, Commissioner of the Department of Information and Public Relations S N Siddaramappa, Musical Maestro Sonu Nigam, Budding Actress Aditi Prabhudeva participated in the inaugural ceremony.
Yash released BIFFES Souvenir containing details of the 220 odd films which will be exhibited. Yash also appealed to Chief Minister to build a studio and assured to pay back through taxes.
Various films will be screened at different venues — Orion Mall, Dr Raj Bhavan in Chamrajpete, Navarang Theatre, and Suchitra Film Society in Banashankari.
