Bengaluru Daylight Robbery: Fake RBI Officers Steal ₹7.11 Crore From CMS Cash Van

Bengaluru: In one of the biggest cash van robberies in recent years, a gang posing as Reserve Bank of India (RBI) officials looted ₹7.11 crore from a CMS cash van in broad daylight near Ashoka Pillar on Wednesday.

The vehicle was transporting cash from HDFC Bank, JP Nagar, to refill ATMs when an Innova car intercepted it. Posing as senior RBI inspectors on a “surprise audit,” the gang told the staff they needed to verify documents linked to the cash movement.

Believing it to be an official RBI operation, the CMS employees cooperated. Moments later, the gang forcibly made the staff sit inside their vehicle, seized the cash bags, and drove off.

The robbers later dumped the staff near Dairy Circle before fleeing with the entire ₹7.11 crore consignment.

Police teams from Suddaguntepalya and Siddapura stations have begun scanning CCTV footage from JP Nagar, Ashoka Pillar, Dairy Circle, and nearby routes to trace the Innova. Initial investigation indicates the robbery was professionally planned, with the gang having precise knowledge of the cash route, timing, and the amount being transported.

A citywide alert has been issued, and specialised teams are now on the case.

More updates are expected as the probe deepens.
