Bengaluru: Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Jagadish G. has directed officials to eliminate garbage black spots across the corporation within 15 days, with daily clearance by 6 a.m. and monitoring to stop waste returning to cleared locations.
At an October 29 review of the Ward One campaign, he also set an end-November target to fill road potholes. These are directions to officials; the corporation has not announced that the work is already complete.
Daily waste clearance and enforcement
Officials and marshals were told to ensure regular door-to-door waste collection, impose appropriate fines for dumping in public places and ensure that shops have dustbins. Shop owners should be held accountable where waste is found outside their premises, the corporation said.
Jagadish also directed enforcement of the single-use plastic ban, including confiscation of banned products and penalties under the rules.
Footpaths and road repairs
Footpaths on arterial and sub-arterial roads are to be inspected again for encroachments and damage. Officials were told to clear obstructions, undertake repairs for pedestrian safety, develop major junctions and use scientific methods for pothole repairs.
The Ward One campaign identifies one ward in each Assembly constituency for coordinated civic improvements. The review covered sanitation, roads, drains, streetlights, water supply, underground drainage, parks, lakes, waste management and transport. Jagadish called for close monitoring of work quality and transparent use of public revenue.
