HC directs govt to issue final list in 2 weeks

BENGALURU:

In the backdrop of speculation that BBMP elections may be postponed, the state government has stated that it has received more than 900 objections to the draft ward reservation list issued by the Urban Development Department.

Advocate General Prabhuling K Navadgi informed the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday that the government is scrutinizing all the objections received in the last couple of days and will take appropriate steps before issuing a final list.

The High Court has granted 2 weeks’ time for the government to issue a final ward reservation list.

On September 14, the Urban Development Department had issued a draft notification of reservations for all 198 BBMP wards, and had sought objections within 7 days.

“The government has received more than 900 objections challenging the reservation categories issued by the Urban Development Department, and all the objections are being scrutinised individually. The government intends to provide justice to all so that no community is deprived of its rights,” the state government informed the High Court.

The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for October 12.
