Civic chief calls for tight vigil at Bengaluru bus stops and railway stations, says arrivals from Kerala should be tested

BENGALURU:

To control the spread of Covid-19 and to keep a check on the new variant of the virus, teams have to be set up at main bus stops and railway stations, and passengers coming from Kerala need to be tested compulsory, said BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta on Saturday.

In a virtual meeting with officials to assess the Covid-19 situation, Gupta said testing in the city outskirts would be discussed with the Bengaluru DC.

Anekal worry

In the city over the last week, there has been a steady rise in cases. On November 26, of 224 Covid cases detected, Anekal zone had a larger number and precautions need to be taken in that zone, he said.

Precautions should be taken to ensure there are no more Covid clusters in the city. Along with this, vigil should be maintained on 63 containment zones in the city. Officials need to start doing genome sequencing to detect any new variants of the virus, Gupta said.

‘Ramp up vaccination’

In the city, till date a total of 1,38,06,027 doses of vaccine have been administered, of which 80,69,986 are the first dose (88 per cent) and 57,36,041 the second dose (63 per cent). In order to ensure greater coverage, announcements should be made through auto rickshaws. Block and lane level vaccination should be ramped up, he said.

Special Commissioner (Health) Dr Thrilok Chandra, Chief Health Officer Dr Balasundar, Deputy Medical officer Dr GK Suresh and other officers were present at the meeting.
