BBMP invites objections to draft notification on parking fee revision

Date:

BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which is planning to revise paid parking at residential and commercial properties in the city, has invited public objections and suggestions to the proposal. Citizens have a week’s time to send in their objections or suggestions.

The BBMP has planned to levy parking fee based on square foot area and has already issued a notification. The civic body says the new measure will bring down parking fees and it will be calculated for every 150 sqft.

Earlier, parking fee was calculated on the basis of whether the building was residential or commercial and at 50 per cent unit rate for enclosed and stilt level parking facilities. Now, the BBMP has proposed Rs 2 per sqft for residential and Rs 3 per sqft for commercial buildings with enclosed or stilt level parking, irrespective of the zone, in an attempt to make it uniform.

This will work out to Rs 600 per year for residential and Rs 1,125 for commercial parking spaces.
