BENGALURU:

The third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic has been tackled successfully, BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta said on Wednesday. He added that the civic agency’s aim now was to gear up to face any future waves of the coronavirus.

Addressing a virtual meeting with the BBMP Covid-19 expert committee, Gupta said that with the help of the “very active” mobile triage units (MTUs), tele triaging, and doctors and staff, around 3,000+ Covid-infected persons are being triaged at their homes everyday. “The number of Covid-19 cases is decreasing. The third wave is being met successfully with the help of all. We have to be ready to face another new wave of the pandemic in the future, if any,” he said.

‘Smooth operations’

During the third wave, efforts were made to eradicate public fears and focus on managing the situation. Vaccinations are ongoing and precautionary jabs are also expected to meet the target. Besides, the number of hospitalizations is also low, he said.

During the month of January, Covid admissions contributed only about 1.8% active cases. A majority of the admissions were in the age group of 60+. It has been instructed to closely monitor ICU admissions, while critical bed admissions’ samples will be sent for genomic sequencing. At present, all such samples are being closely monitored, the Chief Commissioner said.

BBMP Special Commissioner Dr KV Thrilok Chandra, Chief Health Officer Dr Balasundar, members of the BBMP Covid- 19 expert committee and others were present in the meeting.
