Bengaluru: In a major crackdown on corruption, the Karnataka Lokayukta on Tuesday arrested a BBMP executive engineer for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10 lakh to clear a contractor’s bill.
The accused, H.V. Yerappa Reddy, serving as the Executive Engineer of C.V. Raman Nagar Division, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), was caught red-handed during a trap laid by the Lokayukta police based on a complaint filed by Hemant G.M., a contractor.
According to officials, Yerappa Reddy had allegedly demanded the bribe to forward the contractor’s bill for approval. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Lokayukta team conducted a trap operation and nabbed the official while he was accepting the cash.
The trap amount of ₹10 lakh was seized and kept in custody as evidence for further legal proceedings. Yerappa Reddy has been taken into custody, and an investigation is underway.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of DySP B.L. Srinivasamurthy, with Investigating Officers PI H.M. Anand, PI Govindaraju, and supporting personnel.
The case has been registered under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at the Bengaluru City Lokayukta Police Station (Crime No. 31/2025).
