Bengaluru: In a continued crackdown on corruption, the Karnataka Lokayukta police conducted statewide raids in connection with disproportionate asset complaints, including a high-profile search operation against a Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) official.
H.V. Yerappa Reddy, Executive Engineer of the CV Raman Nagar Division, BBMP, who was earlier arrested for allegedly demanding and accepting a ₹10 lakh bribe, is once again under the scanner. The Lokayukta officials carried out searches at three locations linked to him, resulting in the unearthing of unaccounted assets worth over ₹2.62 crore.
According to officials, the seized assets include:
- Immovable properties comprising two residential sites and one house valued at ₹1,45,71,500
- Movable assets including ₹93,200 in cash, gold ornaments worth ₹94,00,000, and vehicles worth ₹22,00,000, totaling ₹1,16,93,200
- Combined asset value: ₹2,62,64,700
Earlier in June, Yerappa Reddy was caught red-handed by Lokayukta sleuths during a trap operation set up based on a complaint by contractor Hemant G.M., who accused the engineer of demanding a bribe to release pending bills.
The Karnataka Lokayukta has intensified its efforts to root out corruption in public offices, especially in urban civic bodies like BBMP. Further investigations into Reddy’s assets and financial transactions are underway.
