Baby, 4 adults found dead in Bengaluru house; toddler survives

Gory incident occurred 4 days ago when house owner was reportedly away

BENGALURU:

A nine-month-old baby was among five persons found dead on Friday evening in their residence at Chetan Circle, 4th Cross, in Thigalarapalya on Magadi Road.

More fortunate was a two-and-half-year-old girl, who had apparently starved for almost four days. She was found unconscious and was rushed to a hospital by the police.

According to the cops, the four adults hanged themselves in separate rooms of the house, while the baby girl was found dead on a bed. It is not clear if the baby died of starvation or from other causes.

The deceased are Bharathi (51), Sinchana (34), Sindhurani (31, and the baby’s mother) and Madhusagar (25). The police suspect that the incident took place four days ago. The surviving girl is the daughter of Sinchana.

House owner calls cops

The incident came to light when house owner Shankar alias Halegere Shankar, husband of Bharathi, who was away for the last few days, returned home. Shankar edits a local newspaper called ‘Shasakara Patrike’. Seeing the doors and windows closed, he suspected something amiss and called the cops. All the bodies were found in a decomposed state and have been sent for an autopsy to Victoria Hospital.

Senior officials, including DCP (West) Sanjeev Patil, and forensic experts visited the spot. No death note has been found so far.

The police are questioning the neighbours about any unusual goings-on in the house and will also question Shankar on his whereabouts.

A case of unnatural death has been registered by the Byadarahalli police.
