At least 5 injured in stone pelting on a procession in Shivamogga

At least five people were injured after a procession was reportedly pelted with stones near Ragigudda in Karnataka’s Shivamogga on Sunday evening, police said.

As a precautionary measure, a contingent of police was deployed to maintain law and order, the police informed.

Section 144 was imposed in the area to prevent any untoward incident, they added.

“There was a stone pelting incident in Ragigudda this evening. However, we managed to disperse the crowd and the situation is under control now,” Mithun Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Shivamogga, told ANI.

“Around 4-5 people sustained minor injuries. Section 144 is in force in Ragigudda to prevent any untoward incident,” the SP said. Police urged locals to refrain from spreading rumours on social media platforms.

As stones were pelted on the procession, the devotees reportedly ran in different directions, sources said.
