Around 20 Tonnes of Waste Cleared After Bengaluru’s ‘Freedom Habba’ at Vidhana Soudha
Bengaluru, August 16: Around 20 tonnes of waste was cleared from Vidhana Soudha and its surrounding areas following the Independence Day ‘Freedom Habba’, Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Jagdish G said on Sunday.
With thousands of people expected to visit Vidhana Soudha for the August 15 programme, the corporation had deployed 35 pourakarmikas and 10 auto-tippers under the supervision of the DGM and Shivajinagar AGM to continuously clean and remove waste generated during the event.
According to Jagdish, each tipper made four rounds on Saturday and the cleaning and waste-removal operation continued until late at night. The team resumed work on Sunday morning. Around 20 tonnes of waste was removed during the operations conducted throughout Saturday and on Sunday morning, he said.
The special cleaning drive covered the interior of Vidhana Soudha, its steps, the frontage and surrounding areas. Waste including discarded paper plates, tea and coffee cups, water bottles and plastic was cleared from the premises.
Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda appreciated Commissioner Jagdish G as well as the officers and personnel involved in the cleaning operation.
DGM Bhimesh Naik, Shivajinagar AGM Rudramuni, junior health inspectors, pourakarmikas and auto-tipper drivers participated in the special sanitation operation.
