After months, Bengaluru reports only 5 corona deaths

State’s case tally nearing 3 lakh

Almost since the time the coronavirus began its upward climb in Bengaluru in April-May, there was a huge sense of relief within the government as only 5 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. 

As per the bulletin released by the Karnataka health and family welfare department, Bengaluru has seen deaths in double digits ever since the virus started peaking.

With the sudden and welcome 24-hour dip in deaths, Bengaluru’s mortality rate is now better than that of the state. As per Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar, it was 1.54% as against Karnataka’s 1.68%.

The recovery rate of the state stands at 68.23% while Bengaluru’s is 66.12%.

On Sunday, Ballari reported the highest number of deaths at 7. Other districts which reported 5 deaths, apart from Bengaluru, are Dakshina Kannada, Koppal and Tumkuru. More than 68 persons died statewide.

On Sunday, 5,938 new positive cases were detected, bringing the total number of infected cases to nearly  3 lakh statewide.
There were  4,996 recoveries in the last 24 hours, while total recoveries are nearing 2 lakh. The total case tally and discharges in Karnataka are now 2,77,814 and 1,89,564 respectively.

The state’s death toll is 4,683, there continue to be 83,551 active cases, and 787 of these are in the ICUs.

Bengaluru saw 2,126 positive cases on Sunday. With this,  the case tally is now 1,07,875. Of these, 71,329 have recovered and 1,668 have died, while  34,877 cases are active. On Sunday 1,468 people recovered in Bengaluru.

After Bengaluru, Ballari reported the highest number of cases on Sunday at 406. Other districts’ numbers Davanagere 265, Koppal 256, Shivammoga 246, Kalaburagi 203, Hassan 196, Dharwad 194, Dakshina Kannada 193, Gadag 182, Haveri 150,  Bagalkot 139, Belagavi 136, Chikkamagalur 126, 117 in Udupi 117,  Tumkur 112, Uttara Kannada 108, Mysuru 92, Chikkaballapur 81, Raichur 81, Chitradurga 71 and Kolar 47.
