BENGALURU: A major road in the City, Kamaraj Road, which was closed for traffic due for Metro construction works five years ago, will now open partially in the second week of May. Motorists are heaving a sigh of relief with the latest development.
In 2019, Kamaraj Road was closed for Metro underground work. As a result, motorists have had to face regular traffic congestion for the last five years. However, the Metro work is now almost complete and the road will be partly open to the public soon.
 A 220-metre-long station is coming up under Kamaraj Road as part of the Nagavara-Kalena Agrahara Metro line. The stretch of road had to be closed in 2019 for construction of the underground station. The new Metro extension will function as an interchange for the purple line.

With the closure of the road, motorists going towards Shivajinagar or Commercial Street had to go via Anil Kumble Circle or Webbs Garage and then take a turn. Due to this, road users used to experience traffic blocks on many stretches of MG Road. With the reopening of Kamaraj Road, vehicle users can easily travel from MG Road to Cubbon Road.
Sources said load bearing tests have been completed by the traffic police and they are planning to conduct another inspection before the road is opened to traffic. The BMRCL has also geared up for opening up of the road for one-way traffic.
