Actor Nagabhushan released on bail after accident which killed woman, left husband injured

BENGALURU: Actor Nagabhushan who arrested by the Kumaraswamy Layout police after he knocked down a couple, resulting in the death of a woman and leaving  her husband seriously injured, was produced before a judge at his residence near National Games village on Sunday. A case has been registered under IPC Section 304A (causing death by negligence).

Following the arrest procedures, Nagbhushan was first released on station bail and his statement was recorded. The police recovered CCTV footage of the incident and are verifying it.

In his statement, Nagabhushan said that he had gone to R R Nagar on Saturday night to meet his friends and the incident took place when he was returning to his home in JP Nagar.

While he was driving car, the couple came down from the footpath to the road near their apartment in Vasanthapura Main Road. When he saw them getting on to the road, he got scared and hit them first, then hit an electricity pole on the footpath, he told the police.

The CCTV footage shows, the couple leaving from their apartment.

The woman suffered severe injuries in the head and face and was in no condition to speak. The man had injuries in the legs, stomach and head. “As my car would not start, I took them to the hospital in an autorickshaw. Doctors at the hospital said the woman died on the way. The traffic police came to the hospital after coming to know about the incident”, he said.
