MANGALURU:

On Saturday, members of the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) tried to disrupt a lecture by Dr. Shamsul Islam, a retired professor of political science from Delhi University, but the police stopped them. The activists held up placards and shouted, “Go back Shamsul.”

Dr. Shamsul Islam was scheduled to talk about the martyrs of the 1857 first war for independence. B V Kakkilaya Foundation had organised the event at the Ravindra Kala Bhavan at Mangaluru University College.

He frequently criticises the Sangh Parivar, the RSS, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At the college, there was a significant police deployment.

The ABVP activists attempted to storm the college and gherao it, which resulted in some conflict with the police. Activists were detained. Additionally, they were prevented from going into the Ravindra Kala Bhavan.
