BENGALURU: Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Monday emphasized the significance of Sanskrit in Indian tradition, describing it as the soul of India and a vital link between our past and present. He made these remarks during the Foundation Day celebrations of Karnataka Samskrit University in Bengaluru, wherein a book release ceremony and felicitation of winners of the 61st All India Shastra Competition was held at Raj Bhavan.
Gehlot highlighted the integral role of Sanskrit in Indian culture and its pervasive importance across various fields. âSanskrit is said to be the worldâs oldest living language, encompassing a vast body of knowledge in poetry, logic, grammar, philosophy, aesthetics, science, technology, mathematics, and related subjectsâ, he stated.
He praised the establishment of Karnataka Samskrit University in 2010, which aims to advance higher education and research in Sanskrit language and literature. âSince its inception, this university has worked diligently to fulfill its mission, gaining recognition and numerous awards in various activitiesâ, the Governor noted.
During the event, five new books were released. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot expressed confidence that these books would serve as valuable resources for students and enhance the knowledge of the general public.
The Governor also congratulated the students who secured the âVijaya Vyjayantiâ award in the 61st All India Shastra Competition, held in Ayodhya. He lauded the universityâs consistent success in this competition over the years. âOur students have won an impressive 15 gold, 6 silver, and 6 bronze medals, along with 2 special awards. Their proficiency in astronomy, poetry, literature, and grammar has brought great credit to the University and the State of Karnatakaâ, he remarked.
Gehlot expressed hope that Karnataka Samskrit University will continue to play a pivotal role in promoting Sanskrit. The event was attended by Dr Ahalya Sharma, Vice Chancellor of the University, among others.
