BENGALURU:

In a startling development, officials from the Jayanagar BESCOM Vigilance Squad have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy. The charges allege that Kumaraswamy illicitly tapped into a street lamp pole to directly draw electricity for illuminating his residence. This violation falls under Section 135 of the Indian Electricity Act.

The BESCOM Vigilance Squad staff is currently preparing to present the FIR copy before the esteemed 71st CCH court judge. This legal action signifies a significant step towards ensuring accountability and upholding the law.

An official complaint has been lodged in response to a video clip that was aired in the electronic media. The clip revealed the illegal acquisition of power from an electric pole to embellish the residence of former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy in JP Nagar for the festive occasion of Deepavali.

Following the dissemination of this video clip on social media and various electronic platforms yesterday, BESCOM officials promptly conducted an inspection at Sri HD Kumaraswamy’s residence. Consequently, the Vigilance Committee took the necessary steps to file a complaint against the former Chief Minister, Sri H D Kumaraswamy.

The allegations against Kumaraswamy have raised eyebrows, as the former Chief Minister’s actions are believed to have bypassed the proper channels for obtaining electricity. Such actions not only undermine the integrity of the system but also set a poor example for the public.

By filing this FIR, the authorities are sending a clear message that no one, regardless of their position, is above the law. The case will be meticulously investigated, and if found guilty, Kumaraswamy will face the appropriate consequences for his actions, an official said on the condition of anonymity.

This incident serves as a reminder that even those in positions of power must adhere to the same rules and regulations as every citizen. The Indian Electricity Act exists to ensure fair and lawful distribution of electricity, and any violation of this act will be dealt with firmly.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the public eagerly awaits the outcome of this case. It is crucial that justice is served, not only to maintain the integrity of the system but also to deter others from engaging in similar illegal activities.
