Governor Accepts Siddaramaiah’s Resignation, Dissolves Karnataka Cabinet; Former CM to Continue Until New Government Takes Charge

According to the notification, Governor Gehlot accepted Siddaramaiah’s resignation as Chief Minister and ordered the dissolution of the Council of Ministers led by him.

However, Siddaramaiah has been asked to continue functioning as Chief Minister until alternative arrangements are made and a new government is formally sworn in.

The development comes a day after Siddaramaiah submitted his resignation following consultations with the Congress high command amid ongoing leadership transition discussions within the party.

With the Governor’s approval, the Siddaramaiah-led Cabinet stands dissolved, and all ministers technically cease to hold office, though the outgoing Chief Minister will continue in a caretaker capacity until his successor assumes charge.

The Congress Legislature Party is expected to finalise its next leader shortly. Once elected, the new leader will meet the Governor and stake claim to form the government.

Senior Congress leaders, including Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, are currently engaged in discussions with the party leadership in New Delhi regarding the transition process, Cabinet formation and allocation of ministerial portfolios.

The notification issued by Raj Bhavan reads:

“In exercise of the powers conferred on me under Article 164(1) of the Constitution of India, I, Thaawarchand Gehlot, Governor of Karnataka, have accepted the resignation of Shri Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister of Karnataka and dissolved the Council of Ministers headed by him with immediate effect.”

The notification further states:

“Shri Siddaramaiah shall continue to function as Chief Minister till alternative arrangements are made.”

The Governor signed the notification on May 29, formally initiating the constitutional process for formation of the next government in Karnataka.
