World Turtle Day Celebrated at Bannerghatta Biological Park With Conservation Awareness Programmes
Bengaluru, May 23: World Turtle Day was celebrated at Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) on Friday with a series of awareness and conservation activities organised in collaboration with India Post, Postcrossing Welfare Society of India and Postcards Ville.
The event featured interactive sessions, educational exhibits and conservation awareness programmes aimed at promoting protection of turtles and their habitats.
The programme was attended by Dinesh Narayan, Deputy Chief Postmaster, Bengaluru, Nalini N., Assistant Superintendent of Post Offices, Bengaluru South, Anusha, Deputy Director, BBP, Dr. Prayag, Deputy Director (Veterinary Services), Anand Madane, Range Forest Officer, Deputy Range Forest Officers Arpitha and Mahesh.
Educational Postcards Released
As part of the celebrations, nine educational postcards featuring commonly found species of: turtles, tortoises and terrapins were officially released at Bannerghatta Biological Park.
The postcards also carried information explaining the differences between the species and highlighted their ecological importance.
Conservation Films Screened
Short wildlife conservation films were screened in association with Roundglass Sustain to create awareness among visitors about turtle conservation and individual responsibilities towards protecting wildlife.
Life-Sized Sea Turtle Models Displayed
Seven life-sized sea turtle models were displayed at the reptile park section of BBP.
Visitors were given information about: different turtle species, their ecological role and unique adaptations and survival mechanisms.
The exhibition attracted significant interest from students, wildlife enthusiasts and park visitors.
The event was coordinated under the guidance of Surya Sen A.V., IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests and Executive Director of Bannerghatta Biological Park.
