Bengaluru: The Supreme Court has granted bail to Dharwad Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni in connection with the Yogesh Gowda murder case, offering him significant interim relief.
The apex court directed that the trial be completed within two months. The order was passed by a Bench headed by Justice Sanjay Karol.
Kulkarni had recently faced rejection of his bail plea by the Karnataka High Court, following which he approached the Supreme Court. His legal team, led by advocate Sharanagouda Patil, successfully argued for bail before the apex court.
Earlier, the Special Court for MPs and MLAs had cancelled Kulkarni’s bail after allegations surfaced that witnesses in the case were being threatened. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the case, had sought cancellation of his bail on those grounds.
With the Supreme Court granting bail, Kulkarni has secured temporary relief, while the trial in the high-profile murder case is expected to proceed on an expedited timeline.
