Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Urban Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar has announced that the government has decided to purchase land for waste disposal purposes within a 40-kilometre radius of Bengaluru.
Speaking to the media at the GBA office, Shivakumar said that if around 100 acres of landโpreferably near hilly terrainโbecomes available on mutually agreed terms, the government is prepared to acquire and take possession of it.
โWe have taken a decision in this regard and have instructed district authorities accordingly. Landowners, farmers, and businesspersons can come forward to offer land. We will also develop a dedicated access road to the site,โ he stated.
The move is part of the governmentโs strategy to strengthen solid waste management infrastructure and address long-term garbage disposal needs in the rapidly expanding city.
Officials are expected to begin consultations with potential landowners soon, as the administration looks to secure a sustainable solution for Bengaluruโs growing waste management challenges.
