Tamannaah Ushers KSDL into a New Era as Brand Ambassador; 57 Products Launched
Bengaluru: Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL), the maker of the iconic Mysuru Sandal Soap, marked the beginning of a new chapter on Tuesday with the appointment of actor Tamannaah Bhatia as its brand ambassador and the launch of 57 new and redesigned products.
The grand unveiling took place at the Taj West End, Bengaluru, where Tamannaah made a dazzling entry amid laser lights, dressed in an elegant off-white ensemble complemented by an iconic Mysuru Silk saree, symbolically blending tradition with modernity—much like the brand itself.
Under the leadership of Minister for Large and Medium Industries M.B. Patil and KSDL Chairman C.S. Appaji Nadagouda, the state-owned enterprise showcased its renewed branding vision, modern packaging, and expanded product portfolio. Tamannaah formally unveiled the refreshed Mysuru Sandal Soap along with 57 products that reflect a contemporary design sensibility.
The revamped portfolio includes sandalwood oil, jasmine-scented soaps, perfumes, toothpaste, coconut oil, petroleum jelly, and a range of organic products—taking KSDL’s offering close to 60 products. The event also saw the release of new brand commercials featuring Tamannaah and the launch of two coffee-table books, ‘Sugandha Siri’ and ‘Aromatic Journeys’, chronicling the heritage of the institution.
Speaking at the event, Tamannaah described Mysuru Sandal Soap as “more than just a soap,” calling it a symbol of childhood memories, emotions, and authenticity. “There is no other soap like Mysuru Sandal in the market. It holds a special place in my heart, and I am proud to represent this iconic brand for the next two years,” she said.
Minister M.B. Patil noted that KSDL is no longer limited to sandal soap alone. “We have entered premium segments such as jasmine-based luxury soaps and perfumes. Jasmine oil costs over ₹4 lakh per litre, yet we are offering high-quality products at affordable prices. European markets show strong demand for such products,” he said, adding that senior officials have explored tie-ups in Coimbatore and Kannauj to strengthen fragrance expertise.
Patil also revealed that while only about 1% of KSDL products are currently exported, a roadmap has been prepared to significantly boost exports. The newly introduced ‘Maharaja’ and ‘Maharani’ series aim to blend heritage with contemporary consumer preferences.
KSDL Chairman C.S. Appaji Nadagouda stated that the company’s turnover is expected to touch ₹2,000 crore, with profits projected to cross ₹500 crore this financial year. “Modern marketing strategies and the appointment of Tamannaah—who commands a pan-India appeal and over three crore social media followers—are key to this growth strategy,” he said.
Managing Director K.P.M. Prashanth delivered the opening remarks. Senior officials including Principal Secretary Selvakumar, independent directors Aravind Galagali and Shamaraju, technical advisor Rajinikanth, Shivakumar, Pratima Vandagaru, and MSIL MD Manoj were present at the event.
