Bengaluru, Feb. 3: Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has directed officials to prepare a blueprint for the construction of an additional flyover at Iblur Junction on the Outer Ring Road (ORR), aimed at easing chronic traffic congestion along one of Bengaluru’s busiest corridors.

The directive was issued during a joint field inspection conducted with officials from GBA, B-SMILE, BMRCL, and the East and South City Corporations. Rao stated that the entire stretch of the ORR—from Silk Board Junction to K.R. Puram—is proposed to be developed in a comprehensive and integrated manner.

Officials informed that an approximately 800-metre-long flyover is required at Iblur Junction. The Chief Commissioner instructed departments to prepare a detailed plan outlining the project cost, construction model, and completion timeline, while leveraging modern construction technology to ensure faster execution.

Silk Board Junction to Get Integrated Development

In coordination with BMRCL and the South City Corporation, officials were directed to undertake comprehensive development works at Silk Board Junction, including installation of High-Risk Point Cameras (HRPC), flood-prevention measures, and allied infrastructure. With Metro pile-cap works currently underway at the junction, Rao stressed the need to complete works swiftly without disrupting vehicular movement.

DPR for ORR Development

A Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being finalised to improve traffic flow through coordinated development of ORR carriageways, service roads, and footpaths. Since Metro-related median and footpath works are already in progress, BMRCL and B-SMILE were instructed to work in close coordination to avoid duplication.

Roads, Footpaths, and Skywalks

Rao noted that roads beneath several Metro stations along the ORR have become uneven due to pile-cap works, leading to reduced road width and congestion. Officials were instructed to inspect all such locations and undertake immediate rectification.

At Iblur Metro Station, a 2-km stretch of footpath was found to be incomplete or poorly maintained. Officials were directed to complete footpath development without delay.

City Corporation and Traffic Police officials were also instructed to jointly survey the ORR and submit a list of required pedestrian skywalks, including design proposals and estimated costs.

Hoodi, ITPL Road, and Other Key Directions

The Chief Commissioner directed authorities to expedite land acquisition for the proposed Hoodi Circle flyover and commence construction at the earliest. Along the ITPL Main Road, properties for which relinquishment deeds have been issued are to be taken over immediately, followed by road widening.

Other directions issued include:

  • Completion of remaining double-decker road works by the end of February
  • Asphalting of service roads near HSR Junction
  • Development of service roads and footpaths near Kodibisanahalli Metro Station
  • Cleaning and maintenance of footpaths near Karthik Nagar Metro Station
  • Introduction of a pay-and-park system near New Horizon Metro Station
  • Early completion of Basavanapura Park development works

The inspection was attended by City Corporation Commissioners Ramesh K.N. and Ramesh D.S., BMRCL MD Ravishankar, Additional Development Commissioner Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar, DCP Gopal M. Byakod, Engineer-in-Chief Dr. B.S. Prahalad, senior engineers, and officials from multiple departments.
