Bengaluru Road Accident: KSRTC Depot Manager Kumar Killed in Auto–Scooter Collision While Using Mobile Phone
Bengaluru: A tragic road accident in south Bengaluru claimed the life of a KSRTC depot manager early Wednesday morning, with police suspecting mobile phone usage and failure to wear a helmet as contributing factors.
The fatal collision occurred around 6:30 am near Wilson Garden BTS Road, within the limits of Wilson Garden Traffic Police Station, when a motorcycle and an auto-rickshaw collided head-on.
The deceased has been identified as Kumar (43), a KSRTC Depot No. 4 Manager, who was residing in BTM Layout. He was on his way to work when the accident took place.
According to police, Kumar reportedly lost control of his scooter after hitting another bike that was stationary by the roadside. Moments later, his bike crashed into an oncoming auto-rickshaw, throwing him onto the road.
Kumar suffered severe head injuries and heavy blood loss and died on the spot. Eyewitnesses reported that he was not wearing a helmet and was allegedly speaking on his mobile phone at the time of the accident.
Following the collision, the auto driver allegedly fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle about one kilometre away. During the investigation, police traced Kumar’s missing mobile phone to the auto-rickshaw. The auto driver had also left behind his own phone in the vehicle, which helped police identify and detain him.
The auto-rickshaw sustained significant damage, while another rider involved in the incident suffered injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
A case has been registered at Wilson Garden Traffic Police Station, and further investigation is underway. Kumar’s body was shifted to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem examination before being handed over to his family.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over mobile phone usage while riding and the importance of wearing helmets, as traffic authorities continue to warn against distracted driving on Bengaluru’s busy roads.
