Bengaluru: A major cave-in on National Highway-44 near Attibele–Anekal stretch has led to severe traffic disruption on the Bengaluru–Hosur highway, leaving thousands of commuters stranded for hours.

The incident occurred at a location where road-widening work has been underway for the past several months. A portion of the highway suddenly caved in, forcing authorities to halt traffic movement along the affected stretch. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported, as barricades had already been placed near the construction zone.

The cave-in resulted in massive traffic congestion extending from Chandapura to Attibele, with vehicles remaining stationary for several kilometres. Commuters reported waiting for four to five hours, while school buses, ambulances, and office-bound vehicles were also caught in the gridlock.

Traffic police said the Bengaluru–Hosur corridor is one of the busiest highway routes, witnessing heavy daily movement of private vehicles, commercial traffic, and inter-state commuters. The sudden subsidence worsened an already congested stretch, which routinely experiences traffic bottlenecks.

Authorities from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have been informed, and emergency measures are being taken to stabilise the damaged portion. Traffic police have implemented diversions from Attibele and urged motorists to avoid the Hosur Road stretch and use alternative routes wherever possible.

Public advisories have been issued requesting commuters to plan travel cautiously until repair work is completed and normal traffic movement is restored.
