Disguised as Men, Two Young Women Busted for Daylight House Burglaries in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: In a startling case of disguise-led crime, Sampigehalli police have arrested two young women who allegedly carried out a series of house burglaries by posing as men in the city.
The arrested accused have been identified as Shalu (27) and Neelu (29), residents of Tannery Road in Bengaluru. According to police, the duo adopted a male appearance by wearing pants, shirts and caps, enabling them to move around unnoticed during daytime hours.
Police investigations revealed that the women would travel on a two-wheeler, scout for locked houses in relatively isolated localities, and commit thefts when homeowners were away. Their method allowed them to avoid suspicion, as they blended in with regular daytime movement in residential areas.
The case came to light following a burglary reported on January 13 at the residence of Sangamesh, a Sampigehalli resident. Based on the complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation.
During scrutiny of CCTV footage from roads surrounding the crime scene, investigators noticed visuals of two individuals appearing to be men walking in the vicinity around the time of the theft. This footage became a crucial lead in the probe.
Further investigation and tracking led police to the suspects, only to discover during interrogation that the so-called “men” captured on camera were, in fact, women in disguise. Police confirmed that the accused deliberately used male attire to conceal their identities and execute the burglaries.
The two women have been taken into custody and are being subjected to further interrogation to ascertain their involvement in other similar theft cases across the city.
