Bengaluru: In a strong message against illegal vehicle modifications and public nuisance, the Bengaluru Traffic Police have seized a car and imposed a record fine of ₹1.11 lakh on a student found driving a vehicle fitted with a modified silencer that emitted flames and excessive noise.

The incident occurred during the first week of January on Hennur Road, where commuters and residents were alarmed by deafening sounds and visible fire bursts from the car’s exhaust. Videos of the incident, recorded by bystanders, soon went viral on social media, drawing widespread attention.

Acting swiftly on the viral footage, officials from the Hennur Traffic Police traced the vehicle and intercepted it. Given the seriousness of the violation and the potential risk to public safety, the car was immediately seized and referred to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) for technical inspection.

Upon examination, RTO authorities confirmed that the vehicle had undergone illegal and dangerous modifications, violating provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. Based on these findings, officials imposed the maximum permissible penalty of ₹1,11,500.

The student, a native of Kerala, paid the fine in full following the RTO order, after which the vehicle was released. Police officials reiterated that strict action will continue against modified vehicles, warning motorists against stunts, noise pollution, and unsafe alterations on public roads.
