Kannada Journalist Doddabommaiah Dies While Returning from Belagavi Session

Bengaluru, Dec. 20: Senior journalist and Vice-President of the Karnataka Journalists’ Cooperative Society, Doddabommaiah, passed away on Friday following a massive heart attack. His sudden demise has left the journalism fraternity across Karnataka in deep shock and grief.

A native of Roppa village in Pavagada taluk of Tumakuru district, Doddabommaiah was the son of Doddaiah and Chikkamma. He had a distinguished journalism career spanning nearly three decades, earning respect for his disciplined reporting and humane approach to news.

He had earlier served as a reporter with Sanjevani and was working with Indu Sanje at the time of his death. He had also rendered services as a part-time Assistant News Editor with All India Radio and Doordarshan.

Doddabommaiah had travelled to Belagavi to cover the winter session of the Karnataka Legislature and returned to Bengaluru on Friday morning. After alighting from a KSRTC bus, he boarded a BMTC bus to reach his residence at Bagalur, where he reportedly suffered a severe heart attack. Despite immediate assistance from fellow passengers, he collapsed and passed away inside the bus.

Apart from his professional work, Doddabommaiah actively contributed to journalist welfare. He served as Vice-President of the Karnataka Journalists’ Cooperative Society and had also held responsibilities as an office-bearer of the Press Club. He was widely known for maintaining close personal ties across the media community.

Condolences: Condolences poured in from senior members of the media fraternity. Ramesh Palya, office-bearers of the Journalists’ Cooperative Society, Karnataka Working Journalists Association State President Shivanand Tagadur, Press Club President Shridhar, General Secretary Shivakumar Bellittatte, and Reporters’ Guild President R. T. Vittal Murthy expressed profound sorrow over his untimely death.

Doddabommaiah’s passing marks the end of a committed journalistic journey rooted in integrity, public service, and professional ethics. He will be remembered as a journalist who placed responsibility above recognition.
