Bengaluru: Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has strongly denied allegations related to graveyard and lake land ownership, asserting that the land in question is ancestral property passed down through generations and not acquired through encroachment, misuse of office, or government grants.
Responding to accusations made by political opponents, the minister said that making allegations without evidence has become a political culture, and maintained that his familyโs land holdings date back to purchases made by his grandfather decades ago.
โThis is not land granted by the government, nor land encroached upon during my tenure. It is ancestral property purchased by my grandfather and legally passed down through family partition,โ Krishna Byre Gowda said.

He categorically rejected claims that his ministerial position was used to manipulate records or influence officials. โIf anyone has doubts, let them verify the records. If they suspect wrongdoing, let them approach the Lokayukta, the DC, or even the courts. I am ready for any independent investigation,โ he stated.
Addressing specific claims about graveyard (smashana) and lake land classification, the minister said that historical land records, handwritten documents, and mutation entriesโsome dating back prior to 2000โmust be examined comprehensively before drawing conclusions.
โAllegations can be made freely, but investigations follow law, evidence, and due process. If any wrongdoing is established, even I will bow before the law,โ he said, reiterating that no one is above legal scrutiny, including himself.
Krishna Byre Gowda alleged that the controversy was politically motivated, aimed at character assassination rather than truth. โThis is mudslinging for political mileage. In public life, truth ultimately comes out, and I believe facts will answer all questions,โ he added.
He also clarified that he deliberately avoided ordering any departmental inquiry himself to prevent allegations of conflict of interest, instead insisting that only independent institutions like the Lokayukta should probe the matter.
