Bengaluru South Corporation Commissioner K.N. Ramesh Directs Officials to Identify and Demolish Unauthorized Constructions
Bengaluru: Bengaluru South City Corporation Commissioner K.N. Ramesh has issued strict directions to civic officials to identify and clear all illegal buildings and structures constructed in violation of approved building plans. The instructions were delivered during a special workshop held on Tuesday to train officials on enforcement procedures.
The workshop focused on strengthening field-level enforcement and ensuring that officials act decisively under the Greater Bengaluru Administration Act, 2024, which grants delegated powers to stop unauthorised constructions and demolish completed violations.
Commissioner Ramesh said officials now have full delegated authority to issue notices, inspect buildings, stop work, and clear encroachments. He warned that failure to act against violations will be viewed seriously.
Clear Role-Based Enforcement Under GBA Act 2024
Officials were trained on specific responsibilities under various sections of the Act:
- Section 243(2):
Town Planning and Works Division engineers must inspect and verify illegal/unauthorised constructions. - Section 243(3)(c)(d)(e)(f):
Jurisdictional Joint Commissioners must issue notices for violations. - Section 243(4):
Town Planning, Works, and Revenue officers must initiate enforcement steps against violations. - Section 244(2):
A dedicated enforcement squad of the municipal corporation will carry out demolition and removal operations. - Sections 311 and 312(1)(b):
Joint Commissioners and engineers must act immediately when illegal construction or deviation is detected.
Commissioner Ramesh emphasised that officials must strictly follow their delegated powers and prioritise cases pending before courts and the Lokayukta.
Senior officers including Chief Engineer K.V. Ravi, Urban Planning Additional Director Girish, and Joint Commissioners Madhu and Satish Babu were present.
The Commissioner reiterated that curbing illegal construction is a top priority and that strict enforcement will continue across Bengaluru South Zone.
