Passport-Style Service Centers to Fast-Track e-Khata Processing, Says ACS Tushar Giri Nath
Bengaluru: In a major administrative reform, the Urban Development Department will introduce a Passport Centers Model across the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) to speed up and streamline e-Khata processing, Additional Chief Secretary Tushar Giri Nath announced on Friday.
Speaking at a press conference at GBA headquarters, Giri Nath said the new model aims to end long-standing difficulties faced by citizens in obtaining e-Khata documents, ensuring faster, transparent and citizen-friendly service delivery through dedicated service centers.
25-Member Special Surveillance Team Deployed
Tushar Giri Nath further revealed that a special vigilance team comprising 25 officers and staff has been deployed to monitor officials involved in e-Khata processing.
“Strict action will be taken against any staff members who reject applications without valid reasons,” he warned.
8 Lakh e-Khatas Delivered So Far
Within GBA limits, 8 lakh e-Khatas have already been issued. Citizens currently access e-Khata services through Bengaluru One centres and nearly 1,000 volunteers. The previously introduced round-robin system—meant to improve transparency—has now been replaced due to operational challenges, with officials introducing a more efficient mechanism.
Special Commissioner Munish Moudgil announced that ten new service centers—one for each zone—will open soon, with the tender process underway. An implementing agency will be finalized within three months, he added.
Moudgil urged citizens not to approach middlemen for e-Khata services. All online applications, he said, will be processed within stipulated timelines unless technical issues arise. Staff members who reject applications without proper justification will face disciplinary action.
B-Khata to A-Khata Conversion Issues
The GBA has received nearly 3,000 applications for B-Khata to A-Khata conversion. However, 98% of applicants have not uploaded mandatory property maps, delaying the process. Moudgil assured that these applications will be cleared soon once the required documents are submitted.
