Bengaluru: The impact of Cyclone Ditva, which has already caused significant weather disturbance in Sri Lanka and is now moving towards the Tamil Nadu coast, has brought an intense cold wave and light rainfall to Bengaluru. For nearly a week, the city has been experiencing an unusual drop in temperature, leaving residents shivering through early mornings and late evenings.

Light showers began across several parts of the city on Friday morning. At Vidhana Soudha and surrounding areas, the temperature dipped to 19°C, accompanied by a continuous drizzle and cold winds. Meteorologists say the sudden transition from warm weather to a sharp cold spell has resulted in minor health issues among residents, with many switching to sweaters, shawls, and caps during morning walks and office commutes.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the effects of Cyclone Ditva will continue to influence Bengaluru’s weather for at least another week. While rainfall is expected to persist until Tuesday, the cold wave is likely to continue even after showers subside.

The cyclone, which is entering Tamil Nadu and affecting parts of Andhra Pradesh, has prompted both states to issue a Red Alert. IMD officials have also advised Bengaluru residents to remain cautious, as isolated thunderstorms with light to moderate rain are likely over the next two to three days.

Authorities have instructed citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy showers, ensure children and the elderly stay warm, and take precautions to prevent cold-related illnesses.
