Jayanagar Commercial Complex Fire: Bengaluru South Corporation Forms Probe Panel; Power Cut, Shops Shut for Safety

Bengaluru: A fire accident triggered by an electrical short circuit at a commercial complex in Jayanagar 4th Block on Sunday morning prompted an emergency response from the Bengaluru South City Corporation, BESCOM, and Fire and Emergency Services. The incident occurred around 10:00 AM, affecting the 1st and 2nd floors of the building.

Upon receiving the alert, fire tenders and corporation officials rushed to the location. As a safety measure, electricity to the entire multi-storey building was immediately disconnected before firefighting operations began.

One Person Rescued from Lift, Another Hospitalised

During the rescue efforts, firefighters safely evacuated Krishnegowda, who was trapped inside the building’s lift when the power went out.
Another individual, Arun Prasad, an employee of the Minor Irrigation Department, suffered uneasiness due to the smoke. He was given first aid and later shifted to Bengaluru Hospital for further medical examination.

Top Officials Inspect Damage

Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao, South City Corporation Commissioner K. N. Ramesh, and Additional Commissioners visited the site soon after the incident.
Their inspection confirmed that there was no structural damage to the building or offices. However, officials noted that the electrical duct sustained significant damage due to the short circuit.

Investigation Committee Formed

Commissioner K. N. Ramesh announced the formation of a joint investigation committee comprising officials from:

  • Bengaluru South City Corporation
  • BESCOM
  • Fire and Emergency Services

The panel will conduct a detailed technical inquiry to determine the exact cause of the electrical failure and submit a comprehensive report.

Shops and Offices Temporarily Closed

To ensure public safety, the entire building’s power supply remains disconnected, and all shops and offices inside the commercial complex have been temporarily shut until a full inspection and repair of the electrical systems are completed.

Corporation officials are stationed on-site to oversee safety protocols and coordinate restoration work.

Encroachments Ordered Cleared

During the inspection, authorities also instructed the removal of unauthorised street vendors encroaching on footpaths and surrounding spaces near the building, citing obstruction and safety hazards during emergencies.
