Bengaluru: A shocking accident in Vidyaranyapura’s GKVK Road has highlighted the dangers of standing through car sunroofs. A child sustained serious head injuries after colliding with a railway height barrier while traveling in a car with the sunroof open.
According to police, the incident occurred when the car passed under the overhead barrier, commonly installed to prevent heavy vehicles from crossing low-clearance points. The child, who was standing through the sunroof, struck the metal beam and collapsed inside the car.
Eyewitnesses rushed the injured child to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed the injuries were critical. The accident has sparked fresh warnings from road safety experts against allowing children to stand through sunroofs, a practice that has become increasingly popular in Bengaluru.
“This is not entertainment; it’s extremely dangerous. Even low-hanging electric wires or barriers can cause fatal injuries,” a senior traffic official said.
