Scooterist killed by falling branch
BENGALURU:
A 22-year-old died after a hollow concrete block fell on her head on Tuesday evening.
The victim, Shilpa, was a resident of Ramanna Block, Nandini Layout. Her brother Dhanush (13) was injured in the incident and has been hospitalised.
As per BBMP officials, Shilpa was taking her laundry in as it had started pouring when a concrete block from the 4th floor of the building fell on her head, killing her instantly. The fourth floor of the building was under repairs.
The BBMP has initiated criminal proceedings against the building owner.
In another tragic incident, 45-year-old Hema died on the spot after a huge branch fell on her while she was riding her scooter. The incident took place near Begur in Bommanahalli.
Rains lash city
Meanwhile, the heavy downpour on Tuesday resulted in huge traffic jams, especially in the Central Business District near Garuda Mall, Richmond Road and the BBMP head office.
Heavy rainfall was reported in Majestic, Malleswaram, Yeshwantpur, Nagarabhavi, Peenya, Yelahanka, Hebbal, Nagavara, KR Puram, Jayanagar, JP Nagar and BTM Layout.
A tree fell on a BMTC bus going to Yeshwantpur, while treefalls were reported from Yelahanka, Adugodi and Goragontepalya. In BTM Layout, power was disrupted after a tree fell on a transformer.
