Ediga community hostel in Seshadripuram declared containment zone, to be under watch till April 2

BENGALURU:

Covid clusters are running hand in hand with the increasing number of positive cases in Bengaluru. One more just cropped up in the state capital as 15 girls – all college students residing in the Karnataka Arya Ediga Mahila Sangha hostel in Malleswaram West, opposite Mantri Square Mall — have been infected with the coronavirus.

The hostel in Seshadripuram is run by the Ediga community, and the girls are studying in various colleges like Maharani College.

As per sources, a Davanagere-based girl was first found infected after she had developed symptoms. “The girl had symptoms and she walked in to BBMP’s PHC to get a test done. She was declared Covid-19 positive. Later, tests on all 39 residing in the hostel were done and a total of 15 were found to have contracted the virus,” the sources said.

Officials declared the hostel a containment zone on Wednesday, March 17, and doctors have decided to keep the entire hostel under watch till April 2, despite the other hostelites testing negative.

In a relief for the authorities, 85 inmates of a nearby boys’ hostel run by the same community have tested negative.

7 ‘red’ zones in BBMP limits

As per BBMP’s Covid bulletin, around 7 active containment zones are in BBMP limits, of which Inspire LiveSuite PG, which has 12 active cases, will remain a containment zone till March 20. The PG was declared so on February 26.

This apart, Om Apparels (factory) in Bommanahalli was declared a containment zone on March 4 after 13 workers tested positive. It will remain so till March 18.

A government school in KR Puram near Mahadevapura, where 9 positive were reported Covid-positive on March 5, will remain a containment zone till March 19, while Navagraha Apartment near Manyata Tech Park (six of a family were found positive on March 8) will remain a red zone till March 22.

A government medical and engineering hostel near Vidyapeeta (eight positives reported on March 12) will remain under containment till March 26. An area under Dasarahalli zone reported 5 positive cases on March 15 and will remain a red zone till March 29.
