Father’s police complaint says boy may have reached building’s terrace via fire exit

Police official rubbishes Kannada channels’ version that boy fell from his 11th floor flat balcony while playing a mobile phone game

BENGALURU:

In a tragic incident, an 11-year-old boy died after falling from a 14-floor building’s terrace in South Bengaluru on Thursday afternoon. The boy has been identified as Jagan, who stayed on the 11th floor of Sobha Valley apartment in Banashankari.

The boy’s father, Pradeep Nelmangala, who filed a complaint with the Rajarajeshwari Nagar police station, said the incident occurred around 2.30 pm on Thursday afternoon when he and his wife had gone out for some work.

‘Brought dead’ to hospital

The incident was brought to their notice after they returned. Meanwhile, fellow-residents of the apartment had shifted the boy to Sparsh Hospital in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, where he was declared ‘brought dead’ by the doctors.

“Jagan was alone in the house and it is said that he had reached terrace of the building via the emergency fire exit which is always kept open for emergency purposes. The entrance to the terrace floor is always kept locked due to security reasons,” Jagan’s father Pradeep reportedly said in his complaint.

TV channels’ ‘spin’

Meanwhile, several local Kannada TV channels in their coverage of the incident claimed that Jagan was playing ‘pubg’ on his mobile phone when he fell to his death from the balcony of his 11th floor flat.

A senior police officer rubbished the version of the TV channels and stated that the boy had died after falling from the terrace of the building. “The boy had fallen around afternoon on Thursday and soon after the incident came to light, the residents of the building rushed him to Sparsh Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead,” the officer said.

The Rajarajeshwari Nagar police have registered a case of unnatural death.
